About Dragonz Whispers

SALAMANDER STORY

Our hobby developed, of collecting high quality, bearded dragons, approximately 3 years ago. It was spring time, when our daughter Kassie presented us with a small salamander she had discovered, under a rock, in the creek that runs behind our house.

(See Kassie was 8 at the time, & was & still is, an animal lover. In the summer months, Kassie loves to catch the great big frogs in the creek. She actually took one of these big frogs one day & went over to grandma's house. Her grandma was weeding her garden & bent over & Kassie put the frog in front of her face & asked her if she wanted to kiss him. Well, to say the least, thank goodness grandma is young, cause she fell backwards screaming, then to laughing so hard we all couldn't get up for a few minutes. Anyway back to the story.)

Although the little critter was sorta cute & Kassie seemed more excited than usual at finding a new friend, we knew that she really couldn't keep a wild animal. She always has good intentions, so "what to do?" was the question on our minds.

Being that we occasionally visited the area pet store, for our 2, always into something, German Shepard's, we decided to take Kassie there. We also knew that they had pet quality lizards, being sold at reasonable prices. When we had gone there on prior occasions, Kassie would point the gecko's out to us. Although we thought she may play hard ball, she was barely reluctant at this trade off, & let the salamander go free. So good-bye Mr. Salamander, enjoy your freedom & hello pet store.

Upon arriving at the pet store, a half hour later, we came upon the reptile tanks & checked out the geckos. We have heard geckos make nice pets, but the ones we looked at seemed sorta boring, just sitting there, looking into the void, although they were not that bad in price. Okay, find the owner, get the gecko! But fate was in the stars that day. For out of the corner of ours eyes, were these little 6 inch lizards, running around & jumping on the glass of their tanks, like they were trying to get our attention. "Hey dad look at these", Kassie said. "Awe, aren't they cute". "yeah, I guess", I said looking at the price tag. They were $25 more then what I wanted to spend. But to their credit, they were kind of cute, & without a doubt showed a personality unlike other reptiles we have seen. Especially standing at the glass of their tanks, & tilting their heads up to look at us. So what the heck! It's always good to have a little personality in your life & $25 more is not really a big sacrifice for happiness. So this is how "Jack", the Bearded Dragon came into our life.

Upon Jack's arrival, my wife gave the customary, reptile greeting from inexperienced reptile owners. "Keep that thing away from me"! She also said "How much did you pay"? After a couple of weeks, Jack worked his charm & by the end of the month, Kassie & I, had to take turns with my wife holding Jack. She fell in love with Jack & would hold him, & he would fall asleep on her shoulder. They were now best of friends.

Jack was such a nice pet, we figured why not get Jack a friend. We wondered, if their were all kinds of different types of geckos, maybe their would be some unusually colored dragons. SO, internet surfing we would go. It was "like wow!", "Look at all the sights & breeders". Although Jack was a nice dragon, with a little color, he was no comparison to some of the dragons we were looking at on the internet. Choosing to what looked like to be one of the better breeders on the net, we acquired "Jill", in which we considered a small fortune.

Jack seemed very happy with Jill, for a good couple of months they would bask under their light together, eat together, follow each other around & looked at each other as if they were in love. They were fun to have & watch.

Out of nowhere, Jack became sick. He stopped eating, very out of it, & laid at the bottom of his tank. So after a few days of hoping he would get better, we took him to a vet. The vet injected Jack with some fluids & meds, but we could tell on his face, it didn't look good. The vet commented on how sometimes that reptiles are not breed properly & are prone to illness & sudden death.

After my wife diligently hand feed Jack, two days later, there was no more Jack & Jill. My wife called me at work to inform me of Jacks death. She had loved Jack & cared for him 24/7 while he was sick, & was so heart broken of his death. Our daughter, Kassie, was in school at the time & my wife was very upset & didn't know how to tell her. I figured I could be strong enough to do it. So I called home, just as I knew, when she had gotten off the bus. When she answered the phone, a rock had formed in my throat. She broke out in tears before I even tried to finish my first sentence, she had already figured it out before I was done telling her. I think my wife & daughter cried for a week, & to this day, a tear forms in everyone's eyes when we think about our loss, our friend Jack.

After the initial shock, my wife & I sorta got a little angry at what just happened. So the idea of maybe raising some quality bearded dragons ourselves, with good genetics formed. We wanted to make a commitment to raise good, healthy, colorful, bearded dragons. We knew our daughter Kassie must also be involved. So here we are now, after researching dragons for almost 3 years, & collecting some of the most beautiful, genetically stable dragons, we have started a few breeding projects. Our intention is obviously not to make a fortune, but to be able to offer outstanding bearded dragons, that are healthy, colorful, have great dispositions, & make some new lines available to the public.

OUR MISSION: We realize people, such as ourselves, want a beautiful, healthy, & hardy animal, with a personality that makes bearded dragons the best lizard to own. We will strive to have some of the most unique morph bearded dragons, that will make Dragonz Whispers a known & trusted name to associate with in acquiring an optimal bearded dragon!
